Her first book, The Dark Room, () was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, and made into the feature film Lore. Inshe was named one of Grantas Best of Young British Novelists, and in she received the EM Forster Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters/5. "The Dark Room" is actually three short stories of Helmut, Lore and Micha.
